Monday, July 23, 2001 by huny young webzine and what not » webzine was fun...think a bar in the village packed with couches, stuffed chairs, christmas lights, and a stage area - almost like a poetry spot. it was a real relaxed atmosphere which eased my nervousness. wasn't all stuffy an corporate like I expected it to be. while I was waiting for the creative endeavors panel to start, chanel, traj, and I got drinks at the bar. that bartender did not play with them drinks...one long island iced tea -triple sec +peach shnapps and I was feelin no pain. buzzin like a bumblebee. the panel discussion was interesting; I shared the stage with the chick from amazonbitch.org, the guy that runs uncleleron.com, the two animated heads from netslaves.com and the really cool muhfucka from beardburn.com. ellen from screechmagazine.com was the moderator for the entire thing. she asked us stuff like how did our sites fuel/contribute to our creativity, what, if any, monetary advantages have our sites given us, how do we stay inspired to keep it going, etc. I'd love to be more specific...blame the bartender. traj and C were in the front row clowning...just laughing and cheering and shit. the audience was tight. theres going to be a tape of the event, so when I get that, I can more specifically describe what was asked and how I answered. I talked, basically however, about how my site was a release for me, how the people that visit and comment and share their views on my thoughts are what keep my inspired. I also talked about the respect level on the web. I was afraid I wasn't makin sense, cause I get passionate on that type of shit, but the audience clapped when I was done - thats a good thing. traj told me later that I came across 100% real and when I was speaking, the rest of the panel would be nodding. now what was MAD hilarious, though, was that the backdrop behind us was like a huge computer screen, and whoever talked got their site put behind them bigger than life. now you know whats comin, right? everytime they talked about me...they saw that BIG BROWN ASS, yo, booty and hot sauce. and the guys in the audience would go "whoooo" and clap, heh. comedy! all in all it was a well done event, I felt MAD good afterwards. met some tight people, including john lee from urbanexpose.com and xina, who I've known online for a good year. shes the one that invited me to speak in the first place. so I'm glad I went and represented. stayed for the investigative zines panel which had me in TEARS laughing...them cats were comedians, especially the head from fuckedcompany.com and john lee. it was confirmed for me - heads that work on the web are mental. yesterday I took chanel to experience shopping in the NYC. we hit up le chateau, old navy, and H&M. today I was gonna take her somewhere else but she had to break out a day early cause her mom was buggin or somethin like that about work. damn I'm glad I don't live with my parents or anywhere near them. couldn't have them controlling me. today will be busy. gotta wrap up shesfly.com, burn some CDs, and pack for DC. shit is hectic. t-shirts should be ready on friday. I'm debating on havin them sent to DC (and sell them at hunyism) or just wait to sell them online. hmmm.
